What is Gingivectomy?
Gingivectomy, also known as gum reduction surgery, is a procedure used to remove gum tissues or gingiva. This procedure is generally used to treat gingivitis, i.e., gum disease, but it can also be used for cosmetic reasons. During the gingivectomy surgery, your dentist may use a scalpel or laser device to remove excess/ infected gum tissues, thereby helping you achieve optimal oral health and cosmetic appearance. We generally perform laser gingivectomy because it’s safer and more effective than traditional scalpel gingivectomy.
